His representative confirmed the service took place at 9am on Sunday morning, though wouldn't confirm suggestions it was held at the Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary.
Wife Susan, and the couple's children Adam and Julie, and the star's stepson Aaron Bay Schuck greeted mourners at a traditional Jewish ceremony just three days after he passed away.
However, the funeral was shrouded by controversy as Nimoy's best friend William Shatner, 83, became the victim of an online hate campaign for not cancelling a charity event he had committed to.

On Saturday night he was due to appear at a Red Cross fundraising even in Palm Beach, Florida, and revealed on Twitter that he would be unable to get to the service on time due to a lack of flights back to Los Angles International airport.
Despite saying his daughters Melanie and Lisabeth would be there in his place, he found himself on the receiving end of nasty Twitter trolls, who labelled him “nasty” for not cancelling his appearance so he could pay his final respects to Nimoy.
One even said he should have chartered a private jet to make the 2500 mile trip.
However, Shatner, who admitted he felt “awful” at missing the funeral, defended himself by insisting that “lots of money was raised” and that he wanted to stick with his commitments.

Yesterday, while the funeral was happening, Shatner – famous for playing Captain Kirk – held an online tribute to his friend on Twitter.
He said: “Leonard and I seemed to be bound by fate to be friends. We were born for 4 days apart.
“He was tall, lanky and sometimes a bit too serious.”
He and wife Elizabeth landed at LAX airport at 1pm local time yesterday aftergetting a flight from Palm Beach, Florida.
Meanwhile, George Takei, who starred as Hikaru Sulu, was trying to fly back from the East Coast of America were he was when it was announced to attend the service with his partner Brad Altman, though it is not yet known if they made it.
Nimoy died at his home in Bel Air, Los Angeles on Friday morning following a long battle with lung disease.
According to step-son Aaron, he passed away of end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, aged 83.
